The temple was founded by Iko, a Chinese monk, who came to Japan 1,200 years ago.
Rhusintei in the north of the main hall is the oldest garden in the prefecture. Two sets of stone arrangement, Todomariishi and Higatayo, are worth seeing, as they were built based on the typical design in the Nanbokucho era (the middle of the 14th century) and are highly evaluated. In each season, the temple has a charm to enjoy, cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer and snow-capped view in winter. The garden with autumnal colored leaves is especially breathtaking.
