Kaii Higashiyama, one of the most popular Japanese painters, used this area as a model for his “Dawn Tide” mural on a wall of the Imperial Palace.
The white sand path creates a passage to Miyagashima Island and Ebisu Shrine. The path changes from moment to moment with the movement of the tide, and at full tide the path disappears, and you cannot cross over to the island. As such, it is called the “Mont Saint-Michel of San’in.”
