The land adjustments established during the Middle Age has not been changed. Marchant houses which were built during the Edo Era (1603-1868) line the 200 meter street. The town was known as “Warehouse of Iwakuni Domain”, as lots of carts loaded with local products frequently passed through the street.
In 1984 the town was registered as an Important traditional building preservation district by the government.
