Dangyokei is a gorge which has been formed by the erosion of the Nigori River, a branch of the Gonokawa River. Scenic beauties of various types, such as extraordinary-shaped rocks and abysses, continue for four kilometers. Formerly the area was called Uokiri. Rizen, a monk of the Josenji Buddhist Temple, renamed the area Dangyokei. The promenade which extends along the gorge has 24 highlights.
