The lighthouse was built in 1903. The heights from the sea surface to the light and the one from the ground to the top are 83,3 meters and 46,33 meters, respectively. It is the tallest stone lighthouse in Japan.
It is one of the 16 lighthouses visitors can climb up to the top. Inside, there are 183 spiral-shaped steps. The top floor is an observatory, from where they can enjoy the marvelous panoramic view. On clear days, the Chugokoku Mountains in the south and the Oki Islands far away in the north can be seen.
