Fukuyama Castle was built by Katsushige Mizuno in 1622 and was almost completely destroyed during the Fukuyama Air Raid of 1945. The remaining observation tower (Fushimi Yaguchi) and the Sujigane Gomon Gate are designated as National Important Cultural Properties. Restored in 1966, the castle is now a museum that exhibits archaeological and historical materials as well as remains and documents of successive feudal lords.
