In the grounds of Kanyoji Temple, you can find six beautiful gardens in differing styles created by the renowned
Japanese landscape architect Mirei Shigemori , known throughout Japan as the Sesshū Tōyō of the modern era
showa no sesshu ). The gardens draw plenty of visitors during the autumn months as the temple glows in bright
hues of gold and brown. Kanyoji Temple offers sutra copying experiences (as shown in the accompanying
pictures) and Zen meditation sessions. Sutra copying is an important part of Buddhist religious practice. You will
be surprised how sutra copying can feel meditative, especially if it is done in this tranquil setting.
