The shop was founded during the Edo period when Shimonoseki was bustling as the transportation hub and the center of commerce.
The most famous confection is awayuki (sweet made of egg whites) whose recipe has been passed down from mouth to mouth. Today the sixth and the seventh shop owners are making it with unchanged traditional skills and ever-lasting sincerity and enthusiasm, trying to preserve the original taste.
Not only awayuki but also a variety of sweets, seasonal Japanese sweets, sponge cake and baked sweets are available.
