The 600 year old event is based on the Aoi Festival of Kyoto. In March, 2004 it was designated as an intangible cultural asset by the town. The floats from three neighborhoods walk in procession in front of the shrine. The big 40 kg floats with diameter of 4 meters and height of five meters are decorated with lots of hanging paper strips of five different colors.
