Yamanba is commonly believed to be an elderly female goblin who lives deep in a mountain and eats infants. However, in Onan-cho, Shimane prefecture, she is kind enough to transform into a young woman to help with hard farming chores.
The festival is held on August 14th to express the gratitude of local people to a caring Yamanba.
